East Grinstead Sports Club

Background
East Grinstead Sports Club is a not-for-profit charity established to provide sporting facilities for the community of East Grinstead and the surrounding area. They are a community club, and it is not necessary for you to be a member.
We were recommended by www.matrixfitness.com to specify and refurbish their gym flooring provision. We also worked closely with www.layrddesign.co.uk to make sure the new flooring scheme would work with their interior design concept.
Consultation Process
We initially carried out a site survey and meeting to understand how the space was used by members and guests. The site houses a gym, club house, sports fields, and exercise studios which the management wanted to capitalise on. The new floor would form part of an extensive refurbishment, so we wanted to make sure our solution was practical and within budget. The area size was just under 350m2, so we needed to make sure our free site survey was 100% thorough.
Installation Process
After removing the very old and stubborn floor, we immediately discovered sub floor damp. We had already pre-empted this and installed a liquid damp proof membrane. We then screeded the main gym ready for the new luxury vinyl tile (LVT) and Taraflex cushioned vinyl, both supplied by www.gerflor.co.uk
The client opted for Creation 70 LVT in colour ‘Cervino Oak Beige’ in the main gym and Taraflex Multi Use 6.2 in colour ‘Polished Concrete Dark Grey’ for the functional area.
In the weights area we had to remove one cubic tonne of concrete that was weak and breaking up. We then installed a deep fill screed in its place, all supplied by www.f-ball.com
Also in the weights area, we installed our 30mm XL Connect rubber tile in black/grey complete with black rubber ramp edges to make it wheelchair friendly. In the mezzanine area, we installed our 20mm XL Connect rubber tile in black/grey.
Results
The gym space has performed a 360-degree transformation from its original dated appearance. The use of natural colours, textures and greenery has turned this once bland area into a tranquil space to train in.
There are further plans to develop this extensive site, and we look forward to seeing the results soon.
