Doubletree By Hilton London Greenwich

Background

Doubletree By Hilton London Greenwich is a RIBA award winning building in the capital. Built in the 1940’s, it was once a police headquarters, but is now a busy hotel for both leisure and business guests.

As part of the hotel’s offering, it features a small but well-equipped gym that is solely for hotel guests. The equipment and décor were very dated, so we were recommended by www.technogym.com to refurbish the gym walls and floor.

Consultation Process

We initially carried out a site survey and meeting to understand how the space was used by guests. It became instantly clear that the hotel owners wanted a room that was user-friendly and more up to date. One wall featured a large graphic that was very dated, so they wanted to change that too.

Installation Process

We removed the old vinyl floor which revealed some moisture issues. We immediately arranged a meeting with the hotel management to discuss the moisture problem, and we then decided the best course of action would be to install a liquid DPM (damp proof membrane).

We opted for www.mapei.com DPM and smoothing compound to get the sub floor to a suitable standard. We needed the floor to be hard, smooth, flat and dry so it would take the new floor coverings.

We then installed www.gerflor.co.uk Creation 70 luxury vinyl tile in colour ‘Onka Pearl’. This would provide a low maintenance and premium looking floor for the cardio and fixed resistance areas.

In the weights area, we installed our XL Connect rubber tile in black/dark grey complete with black rubber ramp edges to make it wheelchair friendly.

Finally, we installed modern black oak acoustic wall cladding over the old wall graphic. The cladding features an acoustic felt backing that reduces airborne noise.

Results

The hotel management were over the moon with their re-vamped gym. Hotel guests now have a more up-to-date workout space.
