Bluecoat Sports Health & Fitness Club

Background
Bluecoat Sports is a registered charity which was set up to benefit the pupils at Christ’s Hospital and the wider community by providing sporting facilities. We were asked by www.matrixfitness.com, their fitness equipment supplier, to devise a flooring scheme that would benefit the new equipment layout
Consultation Process
We quickly discovered the existing flooring scheme didn’t suit Bluecoat’s needs. A central prowler track on the upper level was underused, and the flooring in the lower weights area was inadequate.
We were asked to survey the gym and devise a flooring scheme that would meet Bluecoat’s technical requirements as well as their aesthetic needs.
Our suggestion was to simplify the upper cardio/fixed resistance area and install a heavy-duty rubber tile in the lower weights area. Our suggestion was approved without question.
Installation Process
We completed this installation in one week. This included the rip out of the old floor on the upper level and smoothing compound installation. For the main gym space, we installed Gerflor Creation 70 luxury vinyl tile (LVT).
We also installed our 20mm XL Connect rubber tile in the functional area. This rubber tile features a smooth rubber wear layer which is easy to clean and maintain.
On the lower level, we installed our 30mm XL Connect rubber tile along with a solid oak lifting platform. The old floor was a 10mm rubber which we kept. This saved time and money vs. ripping the old floor out.
Results
The transformation, particularly on the upper level was amazing. The client chose the luxury vinyl tile colour; Gerflor Creation 70 in colour ‘Denim Wood’ (www.gerflor.com). Feedback has been positive and the new Matrix gym equipment looks clean and modern.
