Background

​Stepping into The Connaught feels a little like entering another world. Elegant, yet effortless. Set apart from the bustle of London yet immersed in its culture. Dedicated to fine art, as well as the finer things in life.

The Aman Spa sits beneath the hotel lobby, and part of the spa is the small but functional gym.

 

Consultation Process

Having consulted with the Spa Manager, the brief was to revamp the gym floor as part of a full refurbishment. This included decoration, lighting, fitness equipment and flooring.

Located in central London’s affluent Mayfair, this installation was going to be a logistical challenge. There was no on-site parking and nowhere to store materials. We had our work cut-out, but we came up with a plan.

Installation Process

The original floor was a solid timber plank, and the Spa Manager wanted a new look. We opted to install a layer of plywood over the timber floor. This would give us a blank canvas to install the new floor finish.

The new floor would feature two floor finishes; Creation 70 luxury vinyl tile in colour ‘Pure Concrete Medium’ in the cardio area (made by www.gerflor.co.uk). The weights area featured our XL Connect rubber tile in colour ‘Grey/black’. We complimented the two different floor finishes with a stainless-steel edging strip from www.stairrods.co.uk

 

Results

Previously the gym looked dated, but the new floor coupled with a lick of paint has made a huge transformation. The gym feels bigger and lighter, and feedback from guests has been positive.
